Date:

A picture where cops can be seen engaged in a scuffle with some people is being shared on social media in the backdrop of ongoing student protest in Prayagraj over alleged irregularities in Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examinations.

The caption of the post read: “मुख्यमंत्री को धन्यवाद कहना..पढ़ने गए बच्चे ज़िंदा घर लौट सके‼️ #NoMoreBJP”

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found that the picture is old.

A simple Reverse Image Search on the photograph took us to multiple articles from 2019 where this image was featured. According to the reports, the image was captured during anti-CAA protest.

Hindustan Times shared the same image in an article dated December 21, 2019, with the caption, “Anti-CAA protest in Lucknow (PTI Photo).”

The image was also seen in a 2019 article by The Print with the caption, “Police personnel baton charge at protestors during their rally against NRC and amended Citizenship Act that turned violent, in Lucknow, Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019. | PTI.”

The report also mentioned that at least ‘six people were killed as anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters clashed with police at several places in Uttar Pradesh, hurling stones and torching vehicles.’

Thus, it is clear that an old picture of anti-CAA protest is being shared with a misleading claim.
