Assam Floods: Death Toll Rises To 24; Over 7.19 Lakh People Affected

Guwahati: Amid the growing instances of floods and rain in Assam. At least six more people have been reported dead, taking the death toll to 24.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), out of six people who died, four were reported from Nagaon and one each from Hojai and Cachar districts. Of the 24 deaths, 19 died in floods and five died due to landslides in different districts.

The floods and landslides in Assam have affected and impacted the lives of more than 7.19 lakh people across the state’s 34 districts.

According to another report, a total of 26,489 stranded people have been evacuated with the help of disaster response forces and volunteers and shifted to 624 different relief camps and 729 relief distribution centers.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the army, Assam Rifles, the State Disaster Response Force, and many other national agencies have joined hands in relief efforts with the help of different district administrations.

According to ASDMA, more than 25 MT of essential commodities has been airdropped by the Indian Air Force in the affected region. The Assam government has allotted additional 2 crore rupees each to Cachar and Dima Hasao districts to carry out relief activities for the people. Hojai district has released an additional budget of Rs 3 crore for providing gratuitous relief to flood-affected people.
