On May 25, 2022, Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment by a National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in a case related to terrorism and secessionist activities in Kashmir Valley in 2016-17.
In this backdrop, a video of a woman crying is widely being shared on social media with a claim that she is Yasin Malik’s wife.
The video is being shared with a caption that reads, “रोती बिलखती और भारत को कोसती यासीन मलिक की अभागी पत्नी पाकिस्तान से… ये दर्द देख पीड़ित परिवार समेत समस्त भारतीयों के कलेजे को आज अपार ठंडक मिली है” (English translation: Yasin Malik’s unfortunate wife weeping, crying and cursing India from Pakistan… Seeing this pain, the heart of all Indians including the family of the victim has got immense satisfaction today.)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be misleading.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search with one of the screenshots of the viral video, we found that the same video was uploaded by a hyperlocal news channel, Siasi TV on May 26, 2022, with a caption that read, “A woman is crying after heavy shelling at D-Chowk Islamabad.”
On May 26, 2022, PTI Azad Kashmir, a verified Twitter handle, also tweeted the video with a caption that read, “امپورٹڈ فاشسٹ حکومت عوام کا جم غفیر دیکھ کر گھبرا گئی، خواتین، مرد، بزرگوں اور بچوں کی موجودگی میں تیز شیلنگ شروع کردی گئی۔ .” (English translation: The imported fascist government was horrified to see the crowd of the people, shelling started in the presence of women, men, elderlies and children. )
On May 26, 2022, Islamabad came under heavy tear gas shelling as Imran Khan’s Azadi march reached the capital.
We also found that Yasin Malik’s wife is Mushaal Hussein Mullick. We compared the facial features of Mushaal Hussein Mullick with the woman in the viral video but did not find any similarity between the two.
Hence, we can ascertain that the woman in the viral video is not Yasin Malik’s wife.
