New Delhi: Police arrested 41-years-old, Tetsuya Yamagami, for allegedly attempting to murder former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday.

Here’s What We Know So Far About the Shooter

  • Tetsuya Yamagami is believed to be a local from the city of Nara.
  • The police were able to seize the shotgun he used to carry out the attack.
  • He was standing 10 feet behind Shinzo Abe while he was delivering his speech.
  • Shinzo Abe collapsed on stage in the middle of his speech and Yamagami was tackled to the ground by the security
  • Yamagami served as a Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force member till 2005.
  • He is currently being charged with an attempt to murder.
