Vijay Mallya Sentenced To Four-Months In Prison By Supreme Court

Date:

New Delhi: In another setback for fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya, Supreme Court on Monday sentenced four months in jail and inposed ₹ 2,000 fine on him for contempt of court for withholding information from the court.

According to newswire ANI, the apex court also asked Mallya to deposit back $40 million with interest within four weeks and if he fails to do so it will lead to the attachment of his properties.

In 2017, Supreme Court held Mallya guilty of contempt of court for withholding information from the court about transferring $40 million to his children in violation of the court’s order.

Banks had alleged that Mallya hid the facts and diverted the money to his son Siddharth Mallya and daughters Leanna Mallya and Tanya Mallya in ‘flagrant violation’ of the orders passed by the Karnataka High Court.

Mallya is accused of bank loan default case of over ₹ 9,000 crores involving his now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines.
