Many social media users are sharing a post with an image of Mithun Chakraborty lying on a hospital bed, and a link claiming that the Bollywood actor is no more.
The caption associated with the post reads: “ভারতের বিখ্যাত অভিনেতা মিঠুন চক্রবর্তী নেই তিনি না ফেরার দেশে চলে গেছেন” (English translation: “India’s famous actor Mithun Chakraborty is no more; he has gone to the country of no return”.)
FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did the fact-check, and found it to be fake.
On clicking the link provided in the post, we found an unverified blog — published on August 10, 2022 — having no such information. Only the headline mentions that Mithun Chakraborty passed away.
We did a Google Reverse Image Search of the picture published on the post, and found that India TV uploaded the photo on May 2, 2022. The report stated: “Mithun Da’s son Namashi Chakraborty shared a health update for the actor, saying that he is absolutely fine now. He also revealed that the actor was sick last week due to kidney ailments, but there is nothing to worry about. He also thanked all for their prayers and support for his father.”
Another report by The Times of India, dated May 3, 2022, also suggested that Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to the hospital due to kidney ailment, but he is now doing fine.
ABPLive Bengali also published a report, dated August 21, 2022, saying that the shooting of Bengali movie Projapoti — starring Dev and Mithun Chakraborty — is over.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is fake.
