Air India Express Plane Catches Fire At Muscat Airport; All Passengers evacuated

Muscat: Air India Express Boeing 737-800 Muscat-Cochin flight was evacuated at Muscat airport (Oman) on Wednesday after detection of fire and smoke in engine no. 2 before take-off.

145 passengers including 4 infants and all the crew on board were evacuated from the aircraft and shifted to the terminal building as a precaution.

“Relief flight will be organized,” said a statement by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Air India Express, earlier a government carrier, is now owned by the Tata group. Billed as India’s first international budget carrier, it mainly connects to the Middle East/West Asia, besides Southeast Asia.
