Popular Front of India, a party founded in 2006 with the merger of the Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) and the National Development Front (NDF), was banned by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on September 28, 2022 for a period of five years.
In the above context, a screenshot of a Tweet purportedly done by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has gone viral on social media. According to the screenshot, Manmohan Singh had tweeted in favour of the Popular Front of India and accused Rashtriya Swam Seva Sangh of spreading violence.
The Tweet reads: “PFI was never found to be linked to violence or terrorist organisation, but RSS has always been found in violence and terrorist activities, but the government will ban PFI, because it is the Sangh who has given power!!”

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did a fact-check, and found it to be fake.
On closely observing the viral tweet, we found that the tweet was done from the Twitter handle “@Mr_ManmohanSing”. Also, the Twitter handle was not verified, instead had a blue heart symbol.
Also, while checking the Twitter account, we found that the Twitter bio mentioned that the account was a parody account. The bio present on the Twitter handle reads: “He is an Indian economist and politician who served as the 13th prime minister of India from 2004 to 2014.(Parody account) Not affiliated to Manmohan Singh.”
We found that Saral Patel, the convenor of Indian National Congress had earlier tweeted that Manmohan Singh was not on Twitter. He tweeted, “Tired of people asking, if this account is authentic or not. This is not the first time and won’t be the last, so making it clear for once and all. If Sonia Ji or MMS Ji decides to come on Twitter, they will have a VERIFED twitter account. So, please don’t follow fake accounts. ”
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral post is fake.
