Justice DY Chandrachud To Be Next Chief Justice of India From 9 November

New Delhi: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Monday appointed Justice DY Chandrachud as the next Chief Justice of India with effect from 9th November this year.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju took to Twitter and said “In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, Hon’ble President appoints Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court as the Chief Justice of India with effect from 9th November, 22.”

Earlier on October 11, the outgoing CJI UU Lalit recommended his name as successor for the post.

According to reports, Justice DY Chandrachud will have a term of two years, making it one of the longest tenure in the recent times.

Justice Chandrachud was elevated to the Supreme Court on 13 May 2016. Earlier, he also held the post of Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
