Fact Check: Ratan Tata Didn’t Say He Is dedicating ‘Last Year’ Of His Life Towards Health

A post is being shared on social media where industrialist Ratan Tata can be seen giving a speech. It has been claimed that emotional Tata had said “I am dedicating the last year of my life towards health,” during the inauguration of the Cancer hospital in Assam.

The text on the video read: “आप जिओ हजारों साल असम में कैंसर हॉस्पिटल के उद्घाटन में स्पीच देते Ratan Tata हुए भावुक, कहा यह मेरी ज़िन्दगी का आखिरी साल स्वास्थ्य के प्रति समर्पित करता हूं.”

(English translation: Ratan Tata got emotional while giving a speech at the inauguration of Cancer Hospital in Assam, said, I dedicate the last year of my life towards health)

The above post can be seen here.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be misleading.

We extracted the keyframes of the video and put them through the Reverse Image Search along with certain keywords. The search led us to the full speech of Rata Tata on the official YouTube channel of Doordarshan dated April 29, 2022.

Upon closely observing the speech, we found that Tata towards the end of his speech actually said, “I dedicate my last years to help make Assam a state that recognises and is recognised by all”. The statement can be heard from 6:18 minutes of the video.

Several news outlets reported Tata’s speech during the inauguration of cancer (Assam Cancer Care Foundation) hospital in Assam on April 28, 2022. These reports can be seen here, here and here.

Hence, with the above information, it can be concluded that the post in question is misleading.
