Fact Check: Old Image of Arvind Kejriwal Wearing a Skull Cap Is Viral with Misleading Claim

An image of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wearing a skull cap is being widely shared on social media claiming that he offered namaz in Hyderabad.

The image has been shared after he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to put pictures of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on currency notes for the economic prosperity of the country.

The facebook post reads: ഇന്ത്യൻ കറൻസിയിൽ ഗണപതിയുടെയും സരസ്വതിയുടെയും ഫോട്ടോ വേണം എന്ന് ഗുജറാത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞിട്ട് ഹൈദരാബാദിൽ എത്തിയ കേജരിവാൾ !!! (English translation: Kejriwal came to Hyderabad after saying in Gujarat that he wants the photo of Ganesha and Saraswati in Indian currency !!!)

Here’s the link to the above post.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.

Running a Reverse Image Search, we found the same picture tweeted by the official Twitter account of Aam Aadmi Party Punjab on July 7, 2016.

“Happy Eid to you all,” the translation of the tweet reads.

Similar images of CM Kejriwal were also available on the official website of Getty Images.

The description of one of the images reads: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in skull cap offers prayers with devotees before breaking the Roza on the Holy Month of Ramzan at Malerkotla in Sangrur on July 4, 2016, in Patiala, India. (Photo by Bharat Bhushan/Hindustan Times via Getty Images)

We also scanned through the social media account of Arvind Kejriwal and other media organisations, but could not find any credible report to support the claim.

NewsMobile had debunked the same image in 2021, when it was shared as Kejriwal reading namaz at Jama Masjid.

Hence, it is clear that the post in circulation is false.
