“Unacceptable And Completely Erroneous…: Congress Criticizes SC’s Decision Of Releasing Rajiv Gandhi’s Killers

Date:

New Delhi: Criticizing the Supreme Court’s decision of releasing the remaining killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi from prison, the Congress on Friday called the verdict “totally unacceptable and completely erroneous.”

Congress General Secretary incharge of communications Jairam Ramesh said that the party criticizes it clearly and finds it wholly untenable.

“SC’s decision to free remaining killers of former PM Rajiv Gandhi is unacceptable & completely erroneous. Congress criticises it & finds it wholly untenable. Unfortunate that SC not acted in consonance with spirit of India” the Congress MP said.

The statement by Congress came soon after the Supreme Court ordered the release of six convicts including Nalini Sriharan and RP Ravichandran, serving life imprisonment in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The Supreme Court directed the premature release of six convicts, including Nalini Sriharan and R P Ravichandran, serving life sentences in the case. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and B V Nagarathna said the judgment of the top court in the case of A G Perarivalan, one of the convicts in the case, is equally applicable in their matter.
