Speaker Nancy Pelosi To Step Down From US House Leadership

Washington: US House of Representative Speaker Nancy Pelosi will step down as the Democratic leader in the chamber, a day after Republicans secured a narrow majority.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “I will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership in the next Congress. For me, the hour’s come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus.”

The announcement brings an end to the two-decade as top House Democrat that saw her become the first woman to lead the chamber.

According to a report by Reuters, she will continue being in the Congress representing San Francisco in the House as she has done for 35 years.
