Fact Check: Ronaldo Did Not Sell His Golden Boots to Help Poor Kids in Palestine

Date:

A report is widely shared on social media, claiming that Portuguese soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo sold his four golden boot awards for ₹12 crore to help poor kids in Palestine.

(English translation: “Cristiano Ronaldo has sold his 4 golden boots for ₹12 crore, and all this money will go to help poor children in Palestine.”)

The above post can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be false.

First of all, we could not find any credible report supporting the claim. It is to be noted that Ronaldo is a global figure, and if he would have made such a contribution, it would have been covered by mainstream news globally.

A 2012 article on Sportskeeds had also rubbished the similar claim.

However, in another 2017 report by ESPN about Ronaldo’s charity contributions, he auctioned off his 2013 Ballon d’Or trophy for £600,000, and donated the proceeds to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
So, we can conclusively say that the claim about Ronaldo selling his golden boots to help poor kids in Palestine is false.
