India, US Joint Meet Calls For Immediate Action Against Terrorism

New Delhi: India and United States on Wednesday called for immediate action by all countries against terrorist networks operating in different parts.

During the 19th India-US Counter Terrorism Joint Working Group meeting and the 5th session of the India-USA Designations Dialogue, the two countries strongly condemned the use of terrorist proxies, cross-border terrorism, and all forms of international terrorism

The meeting was attended by Mahaveer Singhvi, Joint Secretary for Counter Terrorism, Ministry of External Affairs of India (MEA), and Timothy Betts, Acting Coordinator for Counter Terrorism, U.S. State Department.

Both the US and India called for the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai and Pathankot attacks to be brought to justice.

The meeting further highlighted and condemned the use of terrorist proxies, cross-border terrorism and all forms of international terrorism.

Both sides reaffirmed their deep strategic partnership for advancing security and prosperity for the two countries. They reiterated that terrorism remains a serious threat to international peace and security.

The meeting further discussed the steps to ensure disruption in the ability of terrorist travel which included steps of sharing information.

“Participants also deliberated pressing counter-terrorism challenges, including countering terrorist financing, preventing and countering radicalization, use of the internet for terrorist purposes, narco-trafficking and its linkages to terrorism and use of new and emerging technologies such as Unmanned Aerial Systems, Virtual Assets, and the Dark Web for terrorist purposes,” the joint statement read.

The meet highlighted the need for concerted action against terrorist networks, including Al-Qaida, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Al Badr. They called on all countries to take an immediate, sustained, and irreversible action to ensure that no territory under their control is used for terrorist attacks.

The United States further welcomed the Delhi Declaration adopted during UNSC Counter-Terrorism Committee which highlighted the need of countering the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.
