The video has gone viral on Facebook.
FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
Extracting keyframes from the viral video, we identified a news report carrying a similar video from a different angle on March 26, 2018. The article reads: “A bus belonging to a passenger transport company was attacked few minutes ago on BR 277, at kilometre 686, in São Miguel do Iguaçu. Protesters against Lula’s caravan threw eggs at the bus travelling from Rio de Janeiro to Foz do Iguaçu. The Federal Highway Police registered the case and the bus company revealed that it will file a police report.”
We found the same video uploaded on a verified Facebook page, dated March 27, 2018, with the text: “Fascists attack Catarinense bus thinking it was Lula’s Caravan bus through the South. We’ve reached rock bottom.”
The same video had also been carried on a YouTube page on March 27, 2018, with the text: “Agroboys (sons of wealthy landowners) missed the target and threw eggs at a Catarinense bus full of tourists from Rio de Janeiro. They believed that former President Lula was in the vehicle. This is the result of the hatred implanted in Brazil.”
Thus, it is clear that an old and unrelated image is falsely shared as Brazil’s soccer team was welcomed with projectiles by their fans after the FIFA World Cup loss.
