New Delhi: Amid the recent surge in global COVID-related cases, the Health Ministry on Thursday advised the Ministry of Civil Aviation to keep a close watch and ensure the implementation of guidelines at international airports, in coordination with Airport Health offices (AHOs) and operators.
The guidelines are issued after the high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi where he emphasized efforts to increase testing across the country.
Key Pointers from the Guidelines are:
- MoCA to ensure 2% of the total passengers in the flight shall undergo random post-arrival testing at the airport.
- The passengers need to be identified (preferably from different countries) by the concerned airlines.
- Passengers who are identified will be allowed to leave the airport after the submission of the samples.
- In case any such travellers are tested positive, their samples should be sent for genomic testing at the designated INSACOG laboratory network.
- The arrangements for the same shall be implemented from 24th December, 2022.
