Fact Check: 2018 Image of the Broken Staircase of a School Bus Goes Viral As Recent

Date:

An image showing a broken staircase in a school bus is widely shared on social media, claiming that this is happening during Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s DMK regime.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Picture Of The Year 2022 #திமுகவால்_தலைகுனியும்_தமிழகம் #DMKFails” (English translation: Picture Of The Year 2022 #DMUK_bows_its_head_in_Tamil #DMKFails)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Doing a Reverse Image Search, we identified a website carrying the same viral image on January 22, 2018, with a caption: “Tamil Nadu Govt.. increased the Bus Fair because NO MONEY to provide Even Foot-Board.. !!”

The image was also shared by a verified Facebook page of a media outlet on January 25, 2018, with a caption: “Nothing is there. He is searching for where is the study!”

Though we could not ascertain the exact location and time of the viral image, it is clear that AIADMK was in charge of the government in Tamil Nadu in 2018, not DMK. Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
