Fact Check: Ola’s ‘April Fool’ Prank Video Resurfaces As Real Advertisement

An advertisement video claiming that the Ola cab company is soon launching ‘Ola Restrooms’ is widely shared on social media. An advertisement video explaining the facilities of ‘Ola Restrooms’ mobile toilet cabs was shared in the viral post.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption, “*_OLA_* MOBILE TOILETS …. “` Coming soon“`”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING. 

Performing a Reverse Image search with relevant keywords, we found a YouTube page having the same video, dated April 13, 2019, with a caption: “Ola cab’s April Fool prank 2019.

The same viral video also had been uploaded on the YouTube page of Ola on March 29, 2019, with a caption: “Introducing Ola Restrooms”. However, in another video published on 02 April 2019, Ola company said that the video they had published so far titled ‘Ola Restrooms’ was a prank video. ‘Ola Restrooms’ may not be real but the lack of toilets and sanitation issues in the country is real.

Several news reports had carried this prank video. “Ola uses an April Fool’s Day prank to drive home a message – India needs more toilets,” reads one report, dated April 1, 2019. 

Thus, it is evident that an old prank video of ‘Ola Restrooms’ is revived as real advertisement.
