PM Modi To Flag Off World’s Longest River Cruise ‘MV Ganga Vilas’ From Varanasi, Check Details Here

Varanasi: MV Ganga Vilas, the world’s longest river cruise, set to unlock the potential and script a new age of river cruise tourism in India, will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 13.

All you need to know:

  • The cruise decked with luxury will cover 3,200 km across 27 river systems in five states of India and Bangladesh.
  • The 51-day cruise will cover 50 tourist spots including World Heritage Sites, National Parks, and River Ghats.

  • Some of the spots include Ganga Aarti, Sarnath, Mayong, known for its Tantric craft, and Majuli, the largest river island and hub of Vaishnavite culture in Assam.
  • The cruise will touch cities like Patna, Sahibganj, Kolkata, Dhaka in Bangladesh and Guwahati in Assam.
  • The vessel will sail along three major waterways in the sub-continent: National Waterway 1 over the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly River system, the Indo-Bangla Protocol Route from Kolkata to Dhubri, and National Waterway 2 over Brahmaputra.

  • MV Ganga Vilas vessel is 62 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and comfortably sails with a draft of 1.4 meters.
  • A complete package of India’s rich tourism experience with the comforts provided by 18 suites on board with a capacity to accommodate 36 tourists.

  • The vessel is equipped with pollution-free mechanisms and noise control technologies.
  • The maiden voyage will witness 32 tourists from Switzerland relishing the Varanasi to Dibrugarh journey.
