Women’s T20 World Cup: India To Clash With Defending Champions Australia In Semi Finals

Date:

Cape Town: India will play against the defending champions Australia in the semi-final of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Cape Town on Thursday.

The horrors of the 2020 T20 World Cup will continue to haunt the Indian side as they lost the match by 85 runs in Melbourne by the hosts.

Australia continues to dominate the format after clinching the title five times in seven editions of the T20 World Cup. India currently ranks fourth in the tally and has made it to the finals once.

The two teams have contested a T20 match 30 times. India has only won six matches, whereas Australia has won 22. One match ended in a tie, while another ended in a draw.

India has not beaten Australia in their last 11 matches and will be the underdogs on Thursday. Australia’s women’s cricket team won all four of their group matches, while India finished second with one loss and three wins.

India needs power-packed performances from the top order batsmen like Shefali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

Smriti Mandhana (149) has been the highest run-scorer for the Indian women’s cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2023 so far while Alyssa Healy (146) has led the run-scoring charts for Australia. Renuka Singh (7) has been India’s leading wicket-taker while Megan Schutt has spearheaded the Aussie bowling with eight scalps.
