A disturbing video showing some police personnel assaulting a minor repeatedly is widely shared on social media, claiming that the minor was punished by UP Police for assaulting a cow.
The video is shared with the text: 8 दिन पहले ही इसने बछड़े की गर्दन मरोड़ते हुए विडियो पोस्ट की थी, आज योगी जी की यूपी पुलिस ने इसकी विडियो पोस्ट कर दी। इसे कहते है शासन (English translation: Eight days back, he had posted the video of twisting a calf’s neck, today Yogi ji’s UP police posted his video. NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be misleading.
Performing a Reverse Image Search, we spotted a news report in Amar Ujala, dated May 2, 2021, carrying a screengrab from the viral video. The headline reads: “UP: Video of minor boys beating for theft goes viral, outpost in-charge and constable suspended.”
The same incident with the video was also reported by The Times of India on May 6, 2021. The description reads: “UP: Cops brutally beat up minors over mobile theft allegation, video goes viral.”
Earlier, NewsMobile had debunked the same video when it was shared with the claim that Uttar Pradesh cops beat them up for raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans.
Sharing the screengrab of the viral video, Chandauli Police also clarified on March 20, 2022, that, “The case is more than a year old in which departmental action has been taken by suspending both the policemen at the time due to the inhuman treatment done to the child. Please refrain from circulating anything without full facts and clear information.”
@UPPViralCheck https://t.co/7Tx0ncnOOg pic.twitter.com/CointCNYZY

As for the second video of a man assaulting a cow, we found that it was shared on YouTube and Twitter on March 22, 2022. However, NewsMobile independently couldn’t verify the origin and location of the video.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old incident related to theft has been shared with misleading claims.
