Fact Check: This Viral Tweet of Rahul Gandhi About Mahabharat Is Fake

Date:

A screenshot of a tweet allegedly posted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is widely shared on social media, claiming that the tweet emphasises Rahul Gandhi’s lack of knowledge about Mahabharata and Ramayana epics. In the viral tweet, Lord Ram has been identified as Arjuna’s mentor rather than Krishna, and the five Pandavas who slew Ravana have been identified as Yudhishter, Laxman, Arjun, Ganesh, and Shatrughan Sinha. Rahul Gandhi allegedly compared the BJP leaders to Kauravas and the Congress party to Pandavas.

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

We did a keyword search, but could not find any credible news article that corroborated the viral claim stating that Rahul Gandhi made any such statement in March 2018.

Even with a Twitter Advanced Search on Rahul Gandhi’s account, we could not find any text related to ‘Mahabharat’.

A number of differences can be seen between the typical tweet from Rahul Gandhi’s official Twitter account and the viral one. Unlike Rahul Gandhi‘s official Twitter handle, which has a grey tick mark, the tweet published in the viral post lacks one. Even the font style of the viral tweet is different from the official one.

In 2018, at the Congress Plenary and Karnataka election meetings, Rahul Gandhi’s address compared the Congress party with Pandavas and BJP leaders with Kauravas in Mahabharat. But, Rahul Gandhi has never said the things that were implied by the screenshot of the tweet.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral tweet has not been posted by Rahul Gandhi.
