CBI In Touch With Interpol Over Removal Of Red Notice Against Mehul Choksi

Date:

New Delhi: Amid the reports of the withdrawal of Red Notice by Interpol against fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday said that it remains in active communication with the Commission for Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF).

With the removal of the Red Notice against Mehul Choksi no longer remains wanted by the INTERPOL.

According to sources close to ANI, the removal of the red notice by the global police will have no impact on the Punjab National Bank case which is reportedly in advanced stages.

Mehul Choksi is wanted in India in connection with a ₹13,000 crores fraud in the Punjab National Bank.

CBI in a statement added that “Systematic steps have been initiated in close coordination with foreign law enforcement agencies for geo-locating and return of wanted criminals and economic offenders. In the last 15 months, over 30 wanted criminals have returned to India,”.

Earlier, Choksi’s lawyer Vijay Aggarwal said that the decision of Interpol to take off the Red Corner Notice (RCN) was the result of efforts of his legal team on the genuine claim of the “kidnapping” of his client Choksi.

The statement further added that “CBI continues to exercise available remedial and appellate options within INTERPOL for rectification of this faulty decision and for restoration of the Red Notice.”
