A video of Prime Minister Modi is being shared on social media, wherein he can be heard saying: “Show only dreams to the poor, tell lies, make them fight amongst each other and rule.”

The video is shared with a text: “Election जितने के लिए बीजेपी को मेहनत नही करना पड़ता, हिंदू मुस्लिम करके जीत जाते है” (English translation: BJP does not have to work hard to win the election, they win by doing Hindu Muslim.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Running a Reverse Image Search, we identified a video uploaded by the official YouTube channel of Bharatiya Janata Party, dated March 21, 2021, with a title: “People of Assam know Congress guarantees-False Manifesto, Confusion, Corruption & scams and more”.

We came to know that the video is from PM Modi’s speech in Bokakhat, Assam.
The viral clip can be seen at 0:21 sec into the above video, where he is saying: “Show dreams to the poor, lie to them, make them fight each other and rule. This has always been Congress’s formula for staying in power.”
The full video of the speech was also streamed live on BJP’s channel on March 21, 2021.
In the above video, the viral clip can be heard at 35.20 min.

Hence, it is clear that the video has been taken out of context and is shared to create a misleading narrative.
