Date:

A video of men in uniform beating people on streets with lathis is being shared on social media claiming that police thrashed people for offering Namaz on the road in Uttar Pradesh.

The video was shared with a caption: “New Rule in Uttar Pradesh No Namaz on Roads… Even London, Paris mayor could not Stop it..!!”

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.

Upon carefully examining the video, we noticed a few shop names and billboards written in Hindi like ‘एस दीन टेलर्स’ (S Deen Tailors)  and ‘अराईना’ (Erina).

Running a keyword search, we found that ‘S Deen Tailors‘ and ‘Erina Collections’ are both located in the same area of Gohalpur in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

Another report by MP Tak, dated October 19, 2021, carries the same location with a title: “Jabalpur में धार्मिक जुलूस के दौरान पथराव, पुलिस ने उपद्रवियों को जोरदार ढंग से खदेड़ा ! | MPTAK”. (English translation: Stone pelting during a religious procession in Jabalpur, miscreants chased by the police).

We noticed that the same shopfronts are visible in both videos.

Another video report by The Quint also carries similar visuals from the same location.

According to the report by The Quint, ‘People took out the procession of Milad-un-Nabi in MP’s Dhar, Jabalpur and Barwani without permission. During this procession, there was a clash between the police and people. Police used force to disperse the crowd.”

Similar reports were also published by News 18 and TV9 Bharatvarsh.

Hence, it is clear that a video from Madhya Pradesh is being shared as that of UP with a false claim.
