Fact Check: 2022 Post Of Cow Slaughter In Manipur Fictitiously Linked To Karnataka Polls

A video showing a man slaughtering a cow and placing the BJP flag under it is widely shared on social media, claiming that it is a recent clip from Karnataka, linking it to the Congress Party’s victory in the state’s Assembly Elections.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “The Khan-Grace victory in Karnataka is celebrated by slaughtering a cow on the BJP flag. Real Indians.”

Here’s the link to the post.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Performing a Reverse Image Search, we traced a tweet, dated January 31, 2022, with a caption, “#Manipur: Muslims slaughtered a #cow keeping on #BJP flag. The goons also abused Chief Minister @NBirenSingh and @BJP4Manipur president A Sarda Devi. And this Mohtarma @khanumarfa says that Muslims live in fear in India and there is a feeling of unease and insecurity among them.”

Checking the comment section of this tweet, we found that on February 1, 2022, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter and responded to the tweet by sharing a screenshot of an Imphal Free Press news report. The report stated that three individuals allegedly involved in the case of cow slaughter had been arrested.

The Imphal Free Press news report, dated February 1, 2022, states: “A cow was seen slaughtered by some individuals over a BJP flag, as a mark of protest against the announcement of BJP tickets for the Manipur Assembly polls.”

Various media outlets, including The Hindu, The Nagaland Post, and The Times of India have also covered the news about this incident.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old video of a cow slaughter incident in Manipur is falsely linked to Karnataka poll results.
