Drishyam Franchise To Be Remade In South Korea

Date:

Cannes: An exciting collaboration was unveiled on Sunday at the Cannes Film Festival between Panorama Studios, a prominent Indian production banner, and Anthology Studios from South Korea. Both studios came together at the India Pavilion to announce their collaboration for the remake of the renowned ‘Drishyam’ film series.

Kumar Mangat from Panorama Studios, while making the announcement, said, “I’m excited that the Drishyam franchise is being made in Korea—a first for a Hindi film. This will not only increase its reach outside India but also put Hindi cinema on the global map. All these years, we have been inspired by Korean fare. Now they have found a muse in one of our films. What can be a bigger achievement for the Indian film fraternity?”

Jay Choi from the Anthology Studios in South Korea said, “We are thrilled to have an opportunity to remake a massively successful Hindi film with a touch of originality from Korean cinema. And the remake has greater significance as the first major co-production between Korea and India. Through our partnership, we will be able to bring the best of both Indian and Korean cinema and make a meaningful remake that is as excellent as the original.”

Drishyam, which is originally a Malayalam film series, has been a favourite among the public. The series’ first movie came out in 2013 with actor Mohanlal as the lead actor. Drishyam was then made in several different languages, and its Hindi remake featured Ajay Devgn in the lead role, which was also loved by the people.

The Drishyam film series, which started off in Malayalam, has long been an audience favourite. The first film in the series, Drishyam, was released in 2013 and starred actor Mohanlal. It was later made in various other languages, and Ajay Devgn played the lead role in the much-loved Hindi version.

In 2021, Drishyam 2 will be released on Amazon Prime Video. While the Malayalam version featuring Moanlal did not get a theatrical release, the Hindi version, which released in 2022 in theatres across the country, was one of the biggest hits at the box office.
