Fact Check: Did Russian President Putin Suffer A Heart Attack? The Whole Credit Goes To AI-Generated Images

Date:

A picture of Russian President Vladimir Putin has surfaced on Internet showing him collapsed on the ground, suggesting that he suffered a heart attack.

Another set of pictures is a newspaper clipping of The Moscow Times making the same claim.

The above posts can be seen here and here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture, and found it to be fake.

First, we looked up the official website of The Moscow Times looking for the article in question, but did not find such an article.

Upon scanning through local media reports and the official Kremlin website, there was no strong evidence supporting the claim of Putin suffered a heart attack.

Putting the pictures through Reverse Image Search and using certain keywords, we came across a Twitter handle, which had originally posted the pictures in question on March 22, 2023.

In the same thread, the user clarified that the picture in question is AI-generated.

We discovered that the above pictures were generated using Midjourney, which is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform.

Hence, it can be concluded that the pictures in question are not real, but AI-generated and the claim attached to them is not true.
