After the video of this rare phenomenon went viral, NASA explained what it is. According to NASA, it is called Sun Dog, i.e., when extra images of the sun are created by falling ice crystals in Earth’s atmosphere.

NASA mentioned that this happens when ‘an observer finds themselves in the same plane as many of the falling ice crystals near sunrise or sunset. During this alignment, each crystal can act like a miniature lens, refracting sunlight into our view and creating phenomena like parhelia, the technical term for sundogs.
