Fact Check: Does This Video Show A Residential Building Set On Fire By French Protesters? Here’s The Truth

France experienced widespread riots following the fatal shooting of the Algerian descent by the police during a traffic stop on June 27, 2023. The violent unrest spread across different parts of the country. Against this backdrop, a video showing one high-rise residential building on fire is doing the rounds on social media claiming that it is a tower in France. 

A Facebook user posted the viral post with following captions:

Conducting a Google Keyword Search, we spotted a video report in Reuters, dated June 27, 2023 and titled: Massive blaze engulfs UAE residential tower

The building in the video matches with the building in the viral clip, and the report confirms that the incident happened in a high-rise residential building in Ajman, UAE. It also cites the official handle of Ajman Police as its source

The media in the tweet shows the before and after state of the building in Ajman. The building in the pictures matches the one in the viral clip, confirming that the incident did happen in Ajman. Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming French protesters set a residential building on fire, is false.
