Fact Check: Viral Video Of Stray Crocodile In Waterlogged Street Is From Vadodara, NOT Haryana/Punjab

Date:

Following incessant rains in several parts of North India, that left roads and streets waterlogged, a video clip of a crocodile in a water-logged residential area started doing the rounds on social media claiming that it is from Ambala in Haryana.

The post reads: Crocodile enters in Geeta Nagri, Ambala 😱🐊 #reels #flood #ambala #ambalacity #ambalacantt #mohali #chandigarh #kharar #delhi #viral #viralvideos #trending #trendingreels #viralreels #haryana #punjab #rain #wildlife #wildlifephotography #trendingnow #trend #mumbai #news #latest #newreels #viralvideo #viralpost #reel #explore #media.

Here’s the link to the above post.

Some users have shared the same video, claiming that it is from Kharar in Punjab.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.

Putting keyframes of the video through Google Reverse Image Search along with keywords such as ‘Crocodile’, ‘Rains’, ‘Drain’, we identified a video posted by The Times of India on August 4, 2019. It was shot from the same location, but from a different angle.

The caption of the video reads: “Due to waterlogging by the ongoing heavy rains, further incidents of crocodiles entering Vadodara’s housing complexes have been recorded. Following last week’s viral video of a crocodile attacking a dog inside Lalbaug’s Rajsthamb society, a team of rescuers captured another reptile at night from the entrance of a house.”

Comparing the video circulated in the name of Ambala and the TOI report, we found both the images were from same location.

The same video on YouTube, uploaded by DeshGujaratHD on August 31, 2019, claims that a stray crocodile was captured during the Vadodara floods.

With keywords ‘Crocodile found Vadodara’ on YouTube, we traced another video report by NDTV on August 3, 2019, claiming that a crocodile was rescued from the flooded streets in Gujarat.

Also, a news article in Deccan Chronicle, dated August 2, 2019, claims that crocodiles were found hunting dogs in flooded Vadodara.

Earlier, NewsMobile debunked the same claim when it was shared in the name of Hyderabad, Bihar and Pakistan.

Hence, the video of a stray crocodile found in the floodwater is from Vadodara in Gujarat, NOT Haryana or Punjab.
