Fact Check: Video Of Cattle Washed Away In Floodwater Is From Mexico, NOT Punjab

Torrential rains in north India have led to flash floods and waterlogging in many northern states. Amidst this, a video is widely shared on social media claiming that a group of cattle being washed away in Punjab. 

The video is shared with the hashtag Punjab.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be false.

Performing a Reverse Image Search, NM team traced the official YouTube channel “Imagen Noticias”, which carries the same video, dated July 28, 2020. According to the video description, these were scenes related to the incident of Jakulpan river in Nayarit (Mexico), where cattle were washed away. 

There is also a news article, published on July 28, 2020, on the same incident. 

The same video has been uploaded on a Twitter post, dated July 28, 2020, with a caption: “WORLD – Cows are washed away by flood after a high volume of rain caused by the hurricane #Hanna in Compostela, Nayarit, Mexico.”

Another publication in Mexico Joranda.com.mx also carries the same video, dated July 28, 2020, claiming that it is from Hanna, in which thousands of people were affected because of the torrential rains, followed by a storm.
