Kathmandu: The helicopter with the call sign 9NMV, which went missing on Tuesday and was carrying six people onboard in Nepal, tragically crashed near Mount Everest. Reports indicate that five bodies have been recovered from the crash site, as confirmed by the local media.
Nepal Civil Aviation Authority released the list of people who were onboard the crashed helicopter. One Nepali and 5 Mexicans were onboard the chopper.
According to a report by The Kathmandu Post, the ill-fated helicopter embarked on its journey from Surki, located in the Solukhumbu district known for Mount Everest and other mountains, and was travelling to Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu. The helicopter’s last recorded location was at approximately 10:12 a.m. in the Lamjura Pass area.
Local residents discovered the wreckage of the crashed helicopter at Chihandanda in Lamjura, as reported by The Post, citing Nwang Lhakpa Sherpa, deputy chair of the rural municipality. The reason behind the crash is yet to be determined. Further details are awaited.
