A cloudburst on July 23 in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in significant devastation. The heavy rains caused extensive damage to houses, people, and crops in the affected area.
Against this backdrop, a video showing a truck being washed away by the strong current of water is widely shared on social media, claiming that these are the visuals from Kupwara.
Here’s the link to the above post.
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Performing a Reverse Image Search of the viral video keyframes, the NM team found the Daily Motion website carrying the extended version of the same viral video in 2018. The video description reads: “Landslides damaged Army transit camp in Arunachal Pradesh. massive landslide on August 1 hit the Army transit camp at Sessa and its ration store, barrack, generation room and ammunition store were buried under the debris. As many as 22 jawans and a Junior Commanding Officer (JCO) had a narrow escape while one of them sustained minor injuries”.
Searching further, we found the same video in a video news report by News Live on August 3, 2018. According to the report, heavy rains in Arunachal Pradesh led to a devastating landslide in West Kameng district. The incident caused significant damage, but fortunately, there were no reported casualties. Several local media outlets also shared additional pictures of the area depicting the aftermath of the devastation caused by heavy rains and landslides.
In 2018, Zee News, The Statesman, and several other news channels covered this incident, providing further details and information about the devastating landslides caused by heavy rains in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Thus, it is confirmed that 2018 video from Arunachal Pradesh is falsely shared as a truck washed away in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara.
