New Delhi: A 25-year-old woman was brutally killed inside a park near Aurobindo College in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Friday, Delhi Police said.

Sharing the details, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Chandan Chowdhary, said that on Friday the police received an information about a woman’s body having been found beside a chair, with blood oozing from her head, at the Vijay Mandal Park.

“Acting on the call, a police team rushed to the spot.

“The body of the woman was found in the park beneath a bench. Blood was oozing out from her head. An iron rod was found near her body,” said the DCP.

According to Delhi Police, the female has been identified as Fatima. The police have also arrested the 28-year-old accused, Irrfan, who used to work as a delivery boy. Irrfan has confessed that he killed the victim after she rejected his marriage proposal. Currently, the police are conducting an interrogation of the accused in connection with the murder.

Meanwhile, speaking to the news agency ANI, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal said that the law and order situation in Delhi is in turmoil.

“Two incidents took place today — a girl was shot in Dabri and the second incident took place near Aurobindo College where another woman was beaten to death by an iron rod. I appeal to the Central govt to call a meeting regarding the safety of women in Delhi. DCW is taking cognizance of these incidents and we are issuing notices for the same.”
