On July 28, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the ‘En Mann, En Makkal (my land, my people)’ padyatra led by Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai. The event was hailed as a “political pilgrimage” with the aim to showcase Tamil culture on a global platform, bring attention to alleged corruption, highlight the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state.
Against this backdrop, a video showing a group of women drinking alcohol inside a car is widely shared on social media, claiming that they are party’s women workers who are participating in the padyatra.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “குடியும் கும்மாளமுமாக நடக்கும் அண்ணாமலையின் பாவ யாத்திரை.. பாஜக பெண்கள் . பாஜக எந்த ஊரில் எந்த வடிவில் வந்தாலும் விஷம் தான் #ஆழ்ந்த_இரங்கல்” (English version, below.)

Performing a Reverse Image Search of the viral video keyframes, our NM team traced a news report, dated March 12, 2021, carrying glimpses of the video in question.
The article reads: “Videos and photos related to drunken women in cars have been released and have created a sensation. Such a shocking incident is taking place in Andhra state. A video is going viral in Andhra state for the past 2 days. Due to this, many people of that state have expressed their dissatisfaction”. This means that the video is old and cannot be related to BJP’s ongoing padyatra in Tamil Nadu.
In March 2021, another report also carried screenshots from the viral video, stating that the visuals were from Andhra Pradesh.
Also, searching on Facebook, we came across the original version of the video. In addition to the women, the video also shows some men drinking outside the car.
Though we could not ascertain the exact time and location of the viral video, it is evident from the above information that it has been on the Internet since 2021.
