New Delhi: In a commendable move, the government has confirmed that single female and male government employees are now eligible for 730 days of childcare leave (CCL). In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh, mentioned that under the provisions of Rule 43-C of the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, female government servants as well as single male government employees serving in civil services and positions related to Union affairs are entitled to this extended child care leave.
According to the report of PTI, This policy allows them to take care of their two eldest surviving children up to the age of 18 years for a maximum period of seven hundred and thirty days during the entire service. Notably, there is no age restriction in cases where the child has a disability. This move reflects the government’s commitment to supporting working parents and addressing their unique challenges.
According to a 2022 statement by the Ministry of Personnel, the leave can be availed for up to three spells in a calendar year. However, in the case of a single female employee, the CCL shall be extended to six spells in a calendar year instead of three.
Female employees working for the Central government are granted maternity leave up to 180 days during pregnancy. This leave duration is extended to 45 days in cases of abortion or miscarriage.
