New Delhi: In a continuing series of cyberfrauds, yet another techie lost ₹17.2 lakhs in Maharashtra’s Thane district. The 42-year-old software professional employed at a prestigious Indian IT firm was targeted by a man and a woman who lured him by offering a “part-time” job related to hotel bookings, confirmed by an official source.

According to the Police, the duo contacted the software professional on August 3 and sent him a link through the Telegram app regarding the job. Initially, they asked him to make a payment for registration purposes. Gradually, the scammers gained his trust and coerced him to pay more on some pretext or the other promising him easy money.

Over the next few days, the duo managed to extract a staggering ₹17.28 lakh from the victim. However, when he inquired about the money he was promised, the duo adopted an evasive stance, raising suspicions. The victim realized he had been duped and approached the Ambernath police station.

According to a report by NDTV, the Ambernath police have registered a case against the scammers under the IT Act. The two accused were identified as Rahul Sharma and Sneha.
