We checked the official website of UNESCO to see whether the organisation has released any such information related to the Indian national anthem or not, but could not find any such report on the website.
Searching further, we traced another news article in India Today, dated September 30, 2008, and titled: ‘India anthem’ email false: Unesco. In 2008, when India Today wrote to UNESCO to seek clarifications, Sue Williams, Chief, Editorial, Press Relations and Unesco Courier, Bureau of Public Information, Unesco, wrote back that no such award has been announced.
Similar claims went viral in 2018, 2019, and 2022 as well. All of these were then debunked by The Quint, The Times of India, and OneIndia, respectively.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video, claiming that the Indian national anthem was declared the best national anthem of the world by UNESCO, is false.
