A video claiming to show a ‘fake’ beggar is widely shared on social media. In the video, the man enters an empty area on his knees, pretending to have leg impairment. He holds a bowl and slowly moves it forward but as soon as he comes inside he removes his clothes, puts on other garments and stands on his feet. The video is trying to show that the beggar was only pretending to be disabled to get money.
The video is shared on Facebook with the caption, “आप गौ माता को चारा डाल दो, आप कुत्ते को रोटी डाल दो “धर्म” होगा मगर इन “फकीरों” को भीख दोगे तो ये आपके विनाश का कारण बनेंगे। ड्यूटी खत्म होने के बाद घर जाने की तैयारी करता हुआ बंदा”
(English translation: You feed the mother cow, If you give bread to a dog, it will be “religion” but If you give alms to these “fakirs”, they will become the cause of your destruction. A man preparing to go home after his duty is over)

We extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a Reverse Image Search with relevant keywords. This search directed us to a Facebook post which carried the longer version of the viral video on June 8, 2022, with the caption, “Beware of fake beggars!” The video ends with a disclaimer stating that it was created to raise awareness and provide entertainment.
Searching further, we found more Facebook posts which carried the same viral video with a similar disclaimer in June 2022.
However, the origin of the video remains unknown, it is evident from the above information that some individuals are sharing the video after removing the disclaimer to make it appear as if the incident is authentic. Therefore, the viral claim is false.
