Fact Check: Viral Post Showing Man Thrashing A Child Is From Bangladesh, NOT India

Date:

The video of a man beating a young boy has gone viral on social media, claiming that the incident took place in a madrasa in Uttar Pradesh.

The video is being shared in context with the recent disturbing incident in UP, where a teacher, Tripta Tyagi, was heard asking students to slap a Muslim student.

(English translation: All the Jihadis are unitedly protesting against a female teacher for not remembering tables, Just like after committing every crime, they mislead by saying “Work  has no religion”, similarly no voice of media will come out on this video.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Putting the screengrab of the video through Reverse Image Search, out team found a report by Dhaka Tribune, dated March 14, 2021, with a headline: “HC for taking care of tortured madrasah student’s study.”

According to the report, the incident took place at a madrasa in Chittagong’s Hathazari municipality in Bangladesh. The man, Mawlana Md Yahia Islam, was seen beating a student on March 9, 2021. It further added that the boy was reportedly beaten up for running after his mother who had come to visit him on his birthday.

The same incident had been covered by The Business Standard, another Bangladesh-based news organisation, with a headline: “Madrasa teacher arrested after mercilessly beating up a minor student in Chattogram.”

The Police had arrested the teacher after the video of him beating up a student over a trifling matter went viral.

Hence, the above information proves that the post is not from India but Bangladesh.
