Fact Check: Viral Image Showing Bus No. 420 Running On Bengaluru Street Is Photoshopped

An image of an orange-coloured bus with route no. 420 written on has gone viral on social media. The bus having the registration number of Karnataka runs on the route between Vidhana Soudha and Parappana Agrahara. Taking a jibe at the Congress-led Karnataka government, people claim that a bus with route number 420 has started by the ruling Congress government in Bengaluru.

Section 420 in the Indian Penal Code deals with Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

A Facebook user shared this post and wrote, “For the first time, a bus route in Bangalore is thoroughly planned by the ruling Congress government… From Source to Destination. Route No. 420. From Vidhana Soudha…To …Parappana Agrahara (Central Jail). Don’t feel bad, this is politician special.”

This Facebook post can be seen here.

It is being widely shared on Facebook and X with a similar claim.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be false.

Running a Reverse Image Search, NewsMobile team traced the same image as the profile picture of a Facebook page BMTC Volvo Bus, uploaded on May 8, 2010. Searching further, it was found that the route number in the image was 365, not 420. Additionally, the words “National Park” were written in Kannada.

We also found several other websites using the same image for different reports. Click here and here to see the report.

Also, the BMTC website does not have any bus route number 420. Looking for the route from Vidhana Soudha to the Central Jail, which is located in Parappana Agrahara, we came to know that there is no direct bus on this route, and one has to change at least three buses to travel from Vidhana Soudha to Parappana Agrahara.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral image is edited and no such route by number 420 exists in Bengaluru.
