On September 8, 2023, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8–6.9 struck Morocco, killing more than 2,900 and injuring 6,125 individuals. Following the earthquake, a video of birds screeching and flying chaotically is doing the rounds on social media, claiming that birds were acting strangely before the earthquake in Morocco.
The text reads: “Birds started acting weird just before the earthquake in Morocco.”
The video was shared with a caption: “There is some anecdotal evidence to suggest that birds and other animals may be able to detect seismic activity or changes in the Earth’s magnetic field before an earthquake occurs. However, scientific research on this topic is ongoing, and the exact mechanisms by which animals might sense earthquakes are not fully understood. It’s a fascinating area of study, but more research is needed to confirm and better understand these abilities.”
