Adobe Unveils Web-Based Photoshop with AI-Powered Features for Streamlined Editing

Date:

New Delhi: Adobe has unveiled the web-based version of its popular photo editing tool, Adobe Photoshop. This new online platform incorporates AI functionalities, driven by Adobe’s newly introduced AI model, Firefly. These AI capabilities, referred to as Generative Fill and Generative Expand, offer the potential to revolutionize existing workflows by autonomously handling certain tasks, thereby saving time.

The beta version of Photoshop for the web was initially introduced in October 2021. Although it aimed for a more simplified user experience compared to its desktop counterpart, it lacked several of the advanced tools and features that users had grown accustomed to.

According to Adobe’s official statement, they have implemented numerous updates to enhance the user experience in the beta version. Notably, they’ve reorganized the toolbar, grouping tools based on specific workflows, such as portrait retouching, object selection, and quick actions. Users who prefer the traditional interface will also have the choice to hide this redesigned toolbar.

With the launch of the web-based Photoshop, creators are no longer required to download or install the application separately. They can conveniently access Photoshop’s tools directly online. Additionally, Adobe has streamlined collaboration by enabling users to invite others to collaborate through a shared link, regardless of whether they have a Photoshop subscription or not.

Adobe has begun incorporating generative AI into its software suite with the introduction of its AI model called Firefly. This integration has now been implemented in Photoshop on the web. With the inclusion of Firefly, two noteworthy features have been introduced: Generative Fill and Generative Expand. These features provide users with the capability to enhance, extend, or remove content from their images while maintaining the original perspective, lighting, and style. Essentially, Photoshop has gained the ability to intelligently edit images with a high degree of precision.

This functionality is also accessible using text prompts in over 100 different languages.

Moreover, in addition to these AI-driven improvements, the web-based version of Photoshop now includes the Contextual Task Bar, a feature initially introduced to the desktop version in June of this year. The Contextual Task Bar serves as an on-screen menu, intelligently suggesting the most relevant next steps, thereby simplifying the editing process and reducing the time and effort required to complete tasks.

Photoshop on the web is available as part of all Photoshop subscription plans and offers a 7-day free trial. While the initial version may not feature all the functionalities of the desktop version, Adobe has reassured users that popular tools like the patch tool, pen tool, smart object support, polygonal lasso, and more will be incorporated in the near future.
