FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.
The NM team found a digital copy of the Indian Constitution on the government website ‘legislative.gov.in‘.
Article 330
Article 330 (Page 221) of the Indian Constitution deals with the ‘Reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the House of People’.
The Article states that the ‘seats shall be reserved in the House of People for —
- The Scheduled Castes;
- The Scheduled Tribes except the Scheduled Tribes in the autonomous districts of Assam;
- The Scheduled Tribes in the autonomous districts of Assam.
Article 342
On the other hand, Article 342 (page 233) of the Indian Constitution discusses provisions related to Scheduled Tribes.
The article states that ‘the President may, with respect to any State or Union territory, and where it is a state, after consultation with the Governor thereof by public notification, specify the tribes or tribal communities or parts of or groups within tribes or tribal communities which shall, for the purposes of this constitution, is deemed to be Scheduled Tribes in relation to that State or Union Territory, as the case may be.’
However, going through the Articles carefully, we could not find any statement saying that the SC/ST/OBCs are not Hindus.
Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral claim is false.
