Nanded: Following a tragic incident at a government hospital in Nanded, Maharashtra, where 31 individuals, including 16 infants, lost their lives within 24 hours, Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil on October 3rd, made the acting dean of the facility clean a dirty toilet and urinals. In a viral video on social media, Patil can be seen handing a broom to the acting dean of the hospital, SR Wakode, and making him clean a toilet and wall-mounted urinals.
Hemant Patil, who represents the Hingoli Lok Sabha constituency, paid a visit to the Shanakarrao Chavan Medical College and Hospital to assess the situation. Upon encountering an unsanitary restroom, he asked the hospital’s Dean, Shyamrao Wakode, to personally clean it. The incident was captured on video, showing Dean Wakode using a wiper while Patil assisted by spraying water into the toilet.
During this incident, Patil expressed his displeasure, saying, “You don’t have simple mugs (in the toilet) and you shout at people who don’t use toilets. Do you (doctors and the dean) behave similarly at your home?” He even inquired about the availability of buckets in the medical college.

The tragic incident occurred after the hospital reported 24 deaths within 24 hours on October 2, which subsequently rose to 31 deaths within 48 hours. The condition of 71 patients remains critical.
Previously, Mr. Wakode had denied allegations of medical negligence, asserting that there was no shortage of medicines or doctors and that the patients received proper care but did not respond to treatment.
In response to the situation, the medical superintendent of Dr. Shanakarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital clarified that the hospital has an adequate supply of medicines for emergency and critical patients. The statement also mentioned that a substantial budget had been allocated to the hospital, with additional funding recently sanctioned.
This incident has drawn political attention, with the opposition targeting the Eknath Shinde-led government in Maharashtra, which comprises the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), the BJP, and the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
