A video of a bike falling down in an overflowing pothole is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have shared the video claiming it to be from Kerala, and criticised the government for such conditions of the roads after rains.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with a caption:
കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു ന്യൂ യോർക് റോഡ് chalenge 😃
ആ കുട്ടിയോട് ഇപ്പോൾ കേരളത്തിലെ റോഡിലൂടെ ഒന്ന് വരാൻ പറയാമായിരുന്നു.
നല്ല മാറ്റം വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്
(English translation: A New York road challenge in Kerala 😃
Could have asked that child to come through the roads of Kerala now.
There has been a good change.)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Running a Reverse Image of the video keyframes, the NM team traced a Facebook post, dated September 19, 2023, on an unverified page. The video looks like a longer version of the viral clip. As per its caption, the incident occurred in Gotatua, Sri Lanka, when a father and his daughter fell into a 16-feet deep pit while on their way to school. The waterlogging was caused due to a pipe burst.
Conducting a Google Keyword Search to know more about the incident, our team found an article in the Daily Mirror reporting on the same incident. The article corroborates the claims made in the Facebook post and further informs that the duo was saved due to timely intervention by the people nearby.
We could not find a single mention of Kerala throughout the article, confirming that the video is from Sri Lanka. Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming a bike fell in a waterlogged pothole in Kerala after light rain, is false.
