Policeman In Egypt Kills 2 Israelis And 1 Egyptian At A Tourist Site In Alexandria

Date:

New Delhi: An Egyptian police officer shot at Israeli tourists in the coastal city of Alexandria, killing at least two Israelis and one Egyptian, as reported by Egypt’s Interior Ministry.

Extra News television channel, which has close ties to Egyptian security agencies, cited a security official revealing that another person sustained injuries in the incident at the Pompey’s Pillar site in Alexandria.

The report also confirmed the suspected assailant was detained.

Security forces promptly secured the area. Disturbing visuals circulated on social media showed two figures lying still on the ground at what seemed to be a tourist site. Meanwhile, another person received assistance from a group of men, with the distressed cries of a woman audible, urgently calling for an ambulance.

Zaka rescue service from Israel confirmed that two people were killed in Alexandria.

The attack on Sunday coincided with Israel’s confrontation against Palestinian militants following a significant incursion from Gaza.

Egypt made peace with Israel decades ago and has consistently played a role as a mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, there remains a significant level of anti-Israeli sentiment in the country, particularly during periods of heightened violence.
