Fact Check: Viral Clip From Egypt Erroneously Shared As ‘Palestinian Fighters’ Touching Down On Israeli Soil

Date:

A video depicting a group of parachutists landing on a building is widely circulating on social media. Many users claim that it portrays “Palestinian fighters” touching down on Israeli soil amid the current Israel-Palestine conflict.

At the time of writing this article, more than 900 casualties have been reported in Israel, and over 690 in the Gaza Strip. This follows a major military offensive initiated by the Islamist militant group Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “#Palestinian Fighters seen parachuting down into #Israel Territory. This looks like #PUBG Battle Royal”.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

We found a response to a viral video on X indicating that this video actually depicts the Egyptian Military Training Academy.

We also used Google Lens to analyse one of the keyframes from the video and translated the words written on the building entrance. It reads: “Military College”.

A search for this academy on Google Maps identifies a building that matches with the viral image.

Though we could not independently verify the exact time of the viral video, it is confirmed that the viral image is NOT from Israel, BUT Egypt.
